Introduction: What Is Energy, Really?

In everyday life, people use the word energy in many ways:

  • “She has calming energy.”
  • “That place had good vibrations.”
  • “I felt something move in my spine.”
  • “The group radiated strong energy.”

At the same time, scientists define energy very differently: as a measurable, quantifiable force that performs work. So—are these the same thing? Or are we talking about two very different realities?

To understand this clearly, we must return to the moment of creation itself—to the mysterious junction where the Eternal, Unmanifest Realm gave rise to time, space, and matter. It is there that we find the origin of two distinct but deeply connected forms of energy:

  • Prakritic energy, which is the subtle substance that gives rise to the material universe
  • Consciousness energy, or Purusha, the intentional and guiding presence within creation

All experiences of energy—whether physical, psychic, or spiritual—arise from the sacred interplay between these two. And all measurable, gross energy that science studies is, in fact, a downstream condensation of this original subtle energy.

The Cosmic Genesis: Prakriti Appears First

Before time and causation, there existed the Eternal Non-dual Realm—beyond even the highest heavens, beyond gods and galaxies, universes and even the cosmos. In this realm, there is only Akshar Brahm, the changeless Absolute. From the lower plane of the Avyakrit (mind) aspect of this Brahm, there arose a condensed, highly potent field of subtle energy known as Rodhini Shakti.

This Rodhini condensed into Prakriti—an unmanifest ocean of paramanus, the finest particles, subtle beyond perception, yet infused with immense latent potential. At this stage, nothing physical exists. There is only the potentiality of matter, condensed but unformed.

Then, from the upper plane of the Avyakrit, emerged the dream-like reflected consciousness of the Lord—Aadi Narayan, also known as Purusha or Cosmic Consciousness. He enters into this field of Prakriti not physically, but as a soft wave of awareness, floating in the quiet ocean of unmanifest matter.

In this timeless stillness, a desire arises in Purusha:

“Ekoham Bahushyam” — I am One; let Me become many.

With this divine will, perturbations ripple through the still ocean of Prakriti, and creation begins. These previously dormant particles now awaken. Under the influence of Purusha, they begin to aggregate, interact, and evolve.

This is the true beginning of the cosmos:

  • Prakriti is the material cause—the raw potential.
  • Purusha is the instrumental cause—the guiding intelligence.

Their union gives rise to all form, life, and experience.

 Two Energies, Two Natures

From this primal union emerge two distinct but complementary energies:

1. Prakritic Energy – The Energy of Matter and Motion

The first expression of Prakriti is Prana—the vital life-force that animates both the inert and the living.

  • In the non-living world, Prana governs the movement of planets, electrons, and natural forces.
  • In living beings, Prana controls all biological functions—heartbeat, breathing, digestion, and thought.

All physical energy—light, gravity, electricity, heat—is a gross expression of Prakriti, evolving through Prana.

2. Consciousness Energy (Purusha) – The Energy of Awareness

Purusha does not “move” in the physical sense. It is the light of knowing, the witnessing intelligence, the soul within all souls. This consciousness becomes bit-consciousness in individual beings—yet it remains linked to the Cosmic Purusha.

While Prakriti operates as a force, Purusha operates as meaning.

Together, they sustain all existence.

 Psychic Energy: Where the Two Energies Interact

When people speak of “psychic energy” in spiritual practice, they are referring to felt experiences that emerge from the interplay of Prakriti and Purusha.

For example:

  • The rising of kundalini may be Pranic energy awakening under the light of consciousness.
  • A sense of divine presence in meditation may be the sattvic field of subtle Prakriti resonating with the soul’s awareness.

Thus, psychic energy is not just emotional or imagined. It is a profound inner phenomenon—a bridge where pranic movement and Conscious presence intersect.

It is the dance of the subtle and the sentient.

Why It’s Different from Physical Energy

In physics, energy is:

  • Measurable (in joules or calories)
  • Conserved (cannot be created or destroyed)
  • Bound by space and time (weakens with distance)

But psychic and spiritual energy:

  • Are felt, not measured
  • Do not obey physical laws
  • Can be transmitted across great distances through prayer, thought, or intention

Science studies what energy does in the material realm. Spirituality explores the source of energy.

 All Physical Energy: A Gross Expression of Prakriti

Here lies the most vital point that modern science has yet to grasp:

All forms of physical energy are offshoots of Prakriti—the qualitative, subtle energy that underlies all of nature.

When Purusha disturbed the silent ocean of Prakriti, its subtlest elements began to activate and organise. Through Prana, the first evolute, these energies cascaded downward into measurable, observable forces: light, heat, motion, gravity, electricity.

This process marks a transformation:

  • From qualitative to quantitative
  • From subtle to gross
  • From unmeasurable presence to physical power

So what we call “energy” in science is merely the outermost crust—a densified, limited shadow of Prakriti’s original vibration. The tools of science have not yet penetrated the veil of Rodhini-infused paramanus, nor understood the conscious intent that set them in motion.

Physical energy is not the root. It is the last visible ripple of a much deeper, sacred ocean.

A Simpler Yet Deeper Paradigm

When we understand the duality of energies—Prakriti and Purusha—we gain a new lens:

  • Prakriti is the mother of form and function
  • Purusha is the light of awareness
  • Prana is the link between the two

All psychic experiences—healing, intuition, transcendence—arise from this sacred interplay. The more we open to inner awareness, the more we align with this conscious matrix of life.

Inner Awareness: The Doorway to True Energy

Rather than reducing psychic experience to pseudo-physics, we should ask:

  • What am I feeling right now?
  • Is this sensation physical or arising in awareness?
  • How does it move or evolve?
  • Is it the dance of Prana, or the touch of Purusha?

When we observe without bias, we see clearly: psychic energy is not fantasy. It is a real movement in the field of consciousness, guided by ancient laws more subtle than gravity.

Conclusion: All Energy Flows from the One

At the heart of all things lies the One—the Superior Brahm (Akshar Brahm)—beyond duality, yet the source of it.

  • From His lower Avyakrit plane, Prakriti was formed.
  • Into Prakriti entered Purusha, as dreamy consciousness.
  • Their union gave birth to Prana, to form, and to life.

Whether it is a beam of light, the force of gravity, a surge of love, or a moment of intuition—it is all energy in motion.

But the origin of that motion lies in stillness.

Physical energy is the outer echo of Prakriti.
Psychic energy is the song of Purusha and Prakriti together.
And all energy, in all its forms, is the luminous expression of Consciousness itself.
