“The Earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.”

– Bahá’u’lláh

At a time when the world seems more divided than ever—by borders, beliefs, wealth, and power—a message from over 180 years ago offers hope and a powerful reminder: We are all part of one human family.

In May 1844, two extraordinary events occurred—one spiritual and the other technological—that pointed toward humankind’s future unity.

In Shiraz, Persia, a young spiritual teacher known as the Báb made a profound declaration. He announced that a new era had begun—one in which the truths found in all sacred scriptures would be fulfilled, and humanity would unite under a global spiritual order. He called upon humanity to rise above narrow divisions and become “brethren in one and indivisible religion.”

At the same time, Samuel Morse sent the first telegraph message across the world in the United States—“What hath God wrought?”—a quote from the Bible (Numbers 23:23). This marked the birth of instantaneous communication, symbolizing the breaking of physical barriers just as the Báb broke spiritual ones.

The Báb’s message stirred hearts. Eighteen seekers—among them the luminous Táhirih, a poet, scholar, and fearless champion of women’s rights—recognised his call. They were named the Letters of the Living, symbols of a worldwide awakening that would be carried further by Bahá’u’lláh.

Bahá’u’lláh proclaimed the essential unity of all religions and peoples. He urged humanity—whether rulers or ordinary citizens—to establish peace, justice, and equity, ensuring that no soul suffers in hunger or indignity.

This vision is not new to the East. The Rigveda echoes:

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”

“The world is one family.”

Maha Upanishad 6.72

The Bhagavad Gita affirms:

“He who sees the Self in all beings, and all beings in the Self, never turns away from it.”

Bhagavad Gita 6:29

Spiritual wisdom across traditions calls us to transcend barriers and recognise the One Divine Essence pervading all beings.

Bahá’u’lláh offered a practical path forward:

  • Environmental stewardship
  • Social and economic justice
  • Gender equality
  • Harmony of science and spirituality

“So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.”

Bahá’u’lláh

This is not merely utopian—it is vital in our fractured world, teetering on ecological collapse and spiritual disconnection.

The outer transformation must be matched by inner change. We are called to:

  • Replace ego with empathy
  • Choose service over supremacy
  • Cultivate cooperation over conflict

As Swami Vivekananda powerfully said:

“They alone live who live for others; the rest are more dead than alive.”

Swami Vivekananda

Bahá’ís commemorate May 23, the Declaration of the Báb, each year through prayer and reflection. But this call is universal. You need not belong to any one faith to live by these truths:

  • We are not separate.
  • We are interconnected.
  • We are one family under one sky.

By releasing prejudice and working in unity across caste, creed, and culture, we participate in the real revolution—the awakening of the human spirit.

Let this be the age in which nations rise not for domination, but for devotion; not for conquest, but for compassion.

Yato dharmas tato jayah

“Where there is dharma, there is victory.”

Bhagavata Purana

May we walk the path of dharma—righteousness, harmony, and love—and become living letters of light in the story of a united Earth.

In this sacred hour of global transition, when religious identities have become battlegrounds instead of bridges, the manifestation of Mahamati Shri Prananth, the Supreme Being of the Nijanand Order, offers the culminating note of spiritual unity. Declared as the final avatar of the Supreme, he came not to add another religion to the world, but to transcend them all, calling humanity back to its original, transcosmic source.

Mahamati Shri Prananth taught that eternal salvation is not the property of any one faith, scripture, or nation. It is the birthright of all souls who turn inward, detach from egoic clinging, and surrender to the One Supreme Reality, beyond forms, names, and dualities.

He proclaimed not a sectarian path but the Religion of Humanity, wherein all souls are brothers and sisters, and the ultimate liberation lies not in conversion, but in realisation.

Let us honour his message and that of Bahá’u’lláh, the Báb, and the seers of every land by rising to become true world citizens—rooted not in flags or rituals, but in oneness, wisdom, and divine love.

“O Soul! You are neither Hindu nor Muslim, neither man nor woman. You are the eternal traveller, destined for union with the Supreme.”

– Essence of the Nijanand Teachings

Let that final union be our shared destiny.
Let Earth become the temple, and humanity the prayer.
