We fallaciously identify ourselves with the body and the life force (pran) as the air we inhale and exhale. This is because we are lost in externalities (gross body and sense perceptions) without understanding internalities (the inner self and machinery). Our parents are only responsible for our gross bodies, and we are the souls with pure consciousness encased by the subtle/astral and causal bodies that enter our gross bodies. Similarly, pran is the first evolute of Prakriti (nature in general)that animates our subtle and causal bodies flowing through the multitude of nadis/subtle channels (meridians) in the pranamaya kosha.

Known as the carriers of prana, the nadis play a vital role in the flow of life force, or vital energy. Prana, often referred to as “life force,” “vital energy,” or “life energy,” empowers the body’s movements and the mind’s thoughts. While prana permeates the entire environment, it travels through the nadis within the body—subtle energy pathways akin to the nervous system are more refined and typically invisible to the naked eye. This Nadi system is part of the subtle energy body, essential for the distribution and circulation of prana throughout the body. The respiratory system and all other systems of the gross body depend on the flow of prana to function and maintain the gross body.
